His eyes narrowed. "Are you a beast?" Stupid question. If she were a beast she wouldn't have asked about the beasts. "Or . . . someone you knew?"

No, she definitely didn’t want to answer this. Then again, it was pretty inevitable with everything she’d asked, but it was still a question she didn’t want to answer. “...Y-yeah,” Eve answered, not finding the nerve to lie, to deny knowing them. It’d be obvious she was lying anyways. She clasped her hands together tightly. “It was… Stupid. Really, really, stupid.”
She turned back around and headed straight for the exit.

Tea sent quiet, stopping and watching her go. Without thinking he blurted out, "I was stupid too." He'd been a child, but even as a child he'd known something was off. He . . . he didn't know all the details. He didn't, but he pitied her. H
She was afraid, and here he was: everything she feared. She was just a kid. She seemed to be. She looked his age the time he'd been . . . he knew the thought had occurred to him before but he couldn't let it go. He didn't know if he could be mad at her for making similar mistakes as he had. It would be hypocritical. "If you need to talk to someone I'm . . . I'm here." As much as he could be. As much as anyone wanted him. "Being alone isn't all it's cut out to be."

She stopped once again, letting his words sink in. “...I’ve never liked it.” Eve admitted. “Being alone, I mean. I hate it. I don’t think I ever will stop hating it either! I’ll never understand who likes it because it’s stupid and dumb and whoever came up with it is a complete utter moron but… it’s better than the alternative. It gets happier endings for other people, don’t you think?”
Empathy was a trait she hadn’t encountered in someone else in ages, and here she had the perfect chance to just let everything loose. And she wanted it. Dear God, she’d never wanted anything more than to just confess everything on the spot, so then maybe she could actually scream for once and let it be heard. It didn’t matter who heard it, she just wanted it out. The only thing stopping her was the ever present fear of damning someone else who listened to her, and she’d rather stay silent than go through that again.

They had suffered so much because of him, and they were the ones dragging him out of his own attempts at being alone. "Your happiness also matters," had not been his words, but the words of those who thought Tea also deserved another chance at life. "You will be punished for your crimes. You will be." Just look at him. "But why sit around waiting for your punishment when you can still live?"

For him, it probably was. From what interactions she had with him, Eve would be pretty surprised if he didn’t have at least a handful of still remaining friends (especially since she’d seen plenty of examples of the cult’s knack for being far too loyal for their own good) to pull him back into living life. She barely knew him and would call out his worst trait only being his past. She, on the other hand, hadn’t particularly gotten along with other members, and the ones who tried she ended up pushing away due to the lingering fear of betrayal, from either their side or her own.

He nodded. He'd had few friends before the cult. A whole three people who didn't want anything from him but to know he was okay. The cult had changed him. He firmly believed she was just as capable of moving on. "I'm here if you want me to be," he reiterated.

“Thanks,” Eve’s lips curled into a bit of a smile at his repeated offer. Her mind flashed back before she could stop it; the repeating ‘not your fault’ echoed back in her head, making the small smile drop off her face. It wasn’t the same, at least his was true, but comfort wasn’t the same to her as it used to be. “But considering everything that’s happened, don’t you think that’s a bit precarious?”

He was making a point. Or at least, it felt like it. “Sure looks like it.”
She looked ahead, the end of the hall in front of her. She glanced back at Tea and gestured to it. “This is the exit, right? Where exactly does it go from here?”

“Oh, well…” She should say good-bye, right? It would be rude not to. She turned back to face him again. “So, erm… Nice meeting you?” Eve held out her hand for a moment before deciding against it and pulling away. She rubbed the back of her neck, not entirely sure how she was supposed to leave.
