"...This in no way means I'm forgiving you. Not for a single moment. But..."
His hand loosened its already gentle grip on Tea's hair.
"Just this once, I need to try this. I need to see. I need to know that...that this is the truth. That what you're saying to me is real."
His fingers slid down to cup Tea's jaw, his intention quite clear. All was silent, Leland's empty eyes locking with Tea's just for a moment.
And then Leland pulled down his jaw, and their lips touched, his breath catching at the sudden rush. He felt everything. Every moment of guilt, every second of pain and loss that Tea had ever experienced was flooding his body like a broken dam. There were no specific memories, only emotion, but it was enough.
Leland couldn't forgive him. Not now. But just this once, he needed to feel this. Just one more time.

Tea had thought he'd been trembling before. Now he was utterly shattering. An ashamed whimper escaped his throat as he responded to the kiss in kind, forgetting who it was he was with momentarily. Then he felt the warmth. Leland's warmth. Still shivering, he felt his additional eye and limbs started to recede, spine snapping back to its usual length as the split in his mouth mended itself. He gripped Leland's shoulders roughly, afraid to let go. Afraid the other's heartbeat will stop for some odd reason, just to punish him for thinking anyone would do this without bearing him ill will let alone anyone with a heart. The concept had been difficult to accept before. It was even harder now.
But he couldn't tear his mouth away from the warmth he still, very reluctantly, adored and loved.

He could feel Tea clinging to him with everything he had, felt the bond that they still so desperately tried to share try to mend itself as the kiss continued, Leland's breath catching as his free hand latched onto the fabric at Tea's hip, feeling just as reluctant to let go.
He didn't want to go back to reality. He didn't want to go back to the sensation of the branded scar on his chest, to the master he served so unwillingly. He didn't want to go back to standing next to Tea, unable to look his way or touch his skin freely and without care like they had done not too long ago.
He just wanted to stay like this, lost in the sensation of lips moving against each other.
But he didn't get to have what he wanted. Not now. Probably not ever again.

Tea clung to him desperately, suddenly heaving as he started to sob. He choked the noises down, instead focusing on sending what little energy he had left into Leland. He tried to share the joy he'd felt, to have found someone who didn't make his skin burn unpleasantly every time they touched. To have felt so at ease for such an extended period of time. It had been so easy to trust Leland.
And Leland nor any cultist could ever trust him again. That . . . that broke him.
