Name: Lydia Gallows
Rank: Snackrifice
Original Power:
1. Pet- Not to be confused with the types of pets you'd keep in a house, Lydia reaches out to an animal in her vicinity (about fifteen meters in any given direction, visible or not) and takes control of it by speaking directly to the creature in its own language within its mind. Her eyes glow a bright sapphire blue, and while she's guiding the creature she looks through its eyes. Once she gives the 'pet' a task to do, it'll continue doing so until she tells it to stop or finishes its task, though if the animal becomes mortally wounded or otherwise pushed back to pure instinct she'll lose control. The spell only works once on any given animal (and only on one at any given time), and she loses control of her own body while controlling the animal's.
2. Self-Evolution- Lasting for a couple minutes at best, Lydia steals a specific trait of any animal whose DNA she's been in contact with and adds it to her own, either modifying her own abilities or adding to them. The more she changes herself, the more life energy it drains from her, especially when it comes to pulling something off like giving herself wings, which has a high chance of knocking her out after returning to her normal self. When equipped with her staff, she can prolong a certain transformation, as it enhances her abilities, but otherwise she only uses this in times of great need. The more recently she's come in contact with any animal, the more efficient the evolution is, but after a day or two trying to use this is borderline impossible.
Power Gained After Joining The Cult:
1. Snakebite- Using part of her soul, she gives life to her snake-shaped staff temporarily to turn it into an actual serpent, and with every bite pulls the life energy out of her victim to both increase the strength of the snake and to fuel herself. Beheading the snake and separating where part of her soul resides in it will both return it to pure metal and knock her out, however, so generally she'll only do this if the person she's fighting has been disarmed.
2. Phoenix- Using the ashes of a bird-of-prey or taking the body of a deceased bird, she uses the flames of her soul to burn and recreate a phoenix of sorts. To create the bird takes about half of her soul, and with every drop of its burning tears it can relight the candles of recently-deceased cult members, using parts of her own soul with every revival. After a couple minutes, the bird perches on top of her staff, bursting into a ball of flames as any remaining energy returns to her. Though she can use extra magic to stay awake, upon the death of the phoenix, she'll pass out for anywhere from eight to sixteen hours as her soul regenerates.
Weaknesses: As most of her abilities are animal-based, if put into a situation where she's completely isolated she becomes weak. Additionally, catching her in a position without her staff (although rare) reduces her range of summoning and strength greatly.
Additional abilities/strengths: Heightened vision and hearing (can see outside the normal range, such as ultraviolet and infrared colors); Animal Scrying; Zoolingualism
Age/How Old You Appear: 32 (actually somewhere around 76)
Age You Joined The Cult: 71
Height: 5' 11"
Skin color: Light tan
Race: Half human/half faerie
Weight: 150 pounds
Body Type: Lean
Eyes: Dark brown, mahogany
Hair: Kind of hazelnut brown, straight
Scars: Claw and bite marks around her neck and collarbone, three long scars down her right forearm
Special Physical Attributes: Elongated, pointed ears; long tattoo of a blood red snake wrapping down around her left arm, head on the back of her hand, two slitted black eyes with red pupils looking upward
Clothing: (for everyday things) Ankle-length deep blue dress, long-sleeved, with black trim around the neck (literally, as a turtleneck) and wrists, fading to black at the bottom of the skirt, with two slits down either side starting halfway up the thigh; a teal cape separating in the front and creating a never-ending curve around the back, with one navy blue brooch holding it together at the neck; black flats, blackened silver tiara with four points in the front, two merging in the center. (for outdoor work) Salt-and-pepper turtleneck, sans sleeves; skinny blue jeans; black hiking boots; brown leather gloves.
Physical Description Paragraph: When at work, she has hr hair pulled up into a messy but efficient bun behind her head, and wears a sleeveless knitted turtleneck paired with either jeans or brown pants. She'll wear brown leather gloves that go a third of the way up her arm, with the body and tail of the snake tattooed onto her left arm visible. On her left ear, a black snake appears to wind up the edge of her ear and point into it from the top, with one large eye painted teal looking outwards. She also keeps in sapphire studs, silver. On her right arm, three long scars rake down the front, identical in shape, length, and apparent depth. The right finger of her right hand sports two silver bands, one with a small turquoise-colored gem set inside.
Family: Her mother, was killed in an arson fire on their house when Lydia was in her early 20's and away at school, but her father survived by chance and he and his daughter lived together until Lydia graduated from college. Like her, he majored in genealogy, but unlike Lydia and her faerie mother, he was human and spent his life working in a laboratory, researching animal genomes.
Quirks: Has no problems putting animals in the line of danger, but detests actually hurting animals. Also would rather wear a dress than efficient clothing even though her work often requires being able to move freely and quickly
Goals: Save up enough money to buy an actual house of her own; become more efficient with her magic
Interests: Biology, writing, investigative journalism, painting, herbology
Habits: Making friendly with random animals, writing little notes to herself on any scrap of paper she can find around her apartment
Vices: Doesn't smoke or drink, but will occasionally use spare cash to try high-quality hallucinogenics since her heightened senses make any and all trips 200% what they are for humans (and it makes great writing material)
What Does Your Room Look Like: Messy, littered with artifacts, trinkets, samples of different plants, books, pages, notes, and other things. Imagine there being a closet and dresser, and now imagine the extra space in the closet becoming a small mushroom garden, and the dresser being covered in different animal's bones, small plants, stacked journals, and diagrams. Imagine a bunk bed, with the top bed turned into a hamper of sorts for dirty clothes, and a bottom bed put together neatly, but half covered in pillows of various shapes and sizes. Now imagine a window, facing east, at the head of the bunk beds, and a handcrafted dreamcatcher hanging from said window. The dresser is on the opposing side of the bedroom from the beds, there's a bookshelf filled with books, journals, diaries, and other reading material to the left of the window, the closet is at the foot of the bed give a couple feet, there's a bedside table outfitted with reading material, a lamp to the left of the dresser and almost right in front of the door lights up the room in the evening with red-tinged light, and the door is to the right of the closet, swinging inward.
Personality: To people she hasn't met before, Lydia can easily be described as easygoing, quiet, and mostly reserved. She tries not to get into anyone else's business, but if you find any interest in hers she doesn't mind sharing. With close friends she lets go more, and can become quite catlike in that she'll grow strongly attached to someone and often express her affections physically through hugs, pokes, tickles, and other forms of physical touch. When angered, generally she'll hold it in initially, but to people who annoy her repeatedly she'll become increasingly snarky and sarcastic, and though she rarely blows up in someone's face she will go on long rants about things that annoy her about any given person (behind their back). Generally, though, she just tries to be hospitable and kind to the people around her, and support those who need it.
Likes: Reading, writing, animals, fairly calming music, food (cooking, sometimes), experimenting
Dislikes: Being cooped up, temperatures over 80ยบ, unnecessary death
Preferred Food Source: She eats human food normally, preferring noodle soups, dishes involving bread, and almost anything involving fish
Group Dynamics: Doesn't do well in large groups, complaining quietly if she had to be around more than five people for prolonged period of time; generally the quiet person of a group unless it's about one of her passions
Friends: [tbd]
Allies: ""
Enemies: ""
Rivals: Prefers not to make them, or at least wouldn't consider anyone a rival
What Do You Consider Your Position In The Cult: Quiet animal lover.
What Do You Do For The Group: Healer
How You Joined The Cult: Was investigating a complaint about strange disappearances regarding certain plants and animals, and recognized most of them to be useful for magical purposes. Continued investigating in the town until discovering the cult, and after sorting things with the original complainant, Lydia decided to join the cult as a way to possibly connect with other magic-users.
