Seth opened his eyes slowly, his vision coming in blurry.
"Seth~" a smooth, sweet voice echoed in his ears, "Silly boy, What are you doing out here?" A face came in to view, soft pale skin shining. Loving yet worn and sad, grey blue eyes stared down at Seth, and a soft hand touched his cheek affectionately.
"Hiding..." Seth admitted from underneath the desk. He didn't want to come out.
"Why are you hiding? My little silly goose!"Her laugh was cheerful, and her short raven black hair framed her cheeks as she leaned down to meet Seth's hight.
"Daddy's coming today... isn't he." It was more of a statement than a question. His father always came over on Sundays...
The shocked look on his mother's face told him all he needed to know. "Y-...yes he is..." She said solemnly, looking down to the hardwood floor.
"..." Seth stared at his mother, his eyes watering, "I don't want him to come..."
They sat there like that, for what seemed like forever, until Seth's mother finally looked to the boy and spoke.
"I know," she said gently, as if she didn't want the man to visit either, "but if you hide, it'll only make him mad." Her words glazed over so naturally as if they were rehearsed, "So... will you please come out?"
Seth hesitantly nodded, and came out from under the desk, hugging onto his mother tightly. He didn't want him to come... Seth was afraid that if he did, he wouldn't live to see another day.
That's how it was every Sunday.
The room faded to black, and moments later Seth was sitting up in his bed, gasping for breath, and shaking. He needed to wash his hands.
