//only open for one on one because writing back and forth with multiple people is frustrating and messy(?) and I cannot handle it
also turns take forever
and this is pre-weirdmageddon
A sigh poured from the cult member's lips, coming to visibility in the cold night air in the form of mist, spiraling away in a litany of miniature water droplet galaxies before disappearing, claimed by the darkness of the forest. Producing an orb of greenish, nearly malachite flame from their hand, bringing lurching and flickering shadows to life, dancing and sliding over trees and fir needle littered ground. They're glad to be back to their home dimension, even going so far as to gently brush their free hand against a towering cedar's red bark fondly, tilting their head back to look up at the green-covered branches.
But back to business.
Weeks earlier, they'd met a strange man with six fingers asking an even stranger question. He was kind of Old Man Adorable, too. He wanted them to help him create a sort of security bubble over the town. At first they said no, until he explained why.
A triangular overlord, a rift in reality, and a worn, yellowed paper with the words: "THE PROPHECY SEEMED FAR AWAY. BUT FINALLY WE'VE REACHED THE DAY. GIVE UP THE PAST. EMBRACE THE STRANGE. EVERYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT WILL CHANGE." Sounded like trouble to them, big trouble. He'd also given them instructions, and a chunk of what looked like...unicorn mane. Ew.
They stepped through the waist high ferns, thoughts of what was to come turning and eating at their mind, bothering them all the way to the designated clearing in the trees, surrounded by a circle of tiny fairy mushrooms. Withdrawing their wand, the unicorn mane, and their trusty gravy salt, they drew a copy of Merlin's circle, customized with some of their own spiraling runes lining the outside of the ancient drawing. Once finished, the circle began to glow a dazzling teal, bright enough to sting their eyes through their Cool Shades. They stepped back, watching the energy pulse from the circle, emitting a strong wind and a flash as it set over the town, the glow fading and rendering the shield transparent. Usually, energy fields are used to keep things out, or repel things, but this was different. It served to keep the triangle guy, and any other sentient beings from dimensions other than this one out.
They watched the circle fade for a moment, wondering if they could truly trust Stanford, and worrying if they'd just made a big mistake. They sighed again and closed their eyes, letting the tense feeling relax, their shoulders drooping back to their natural state, before they open their eyes and turn to head back to the manor.
