Forum will not be moving. See most recent post for voting results. Alrighty folks. We've got new admins, it's a new year, and I know y'all still have like, $3 left from your grandmother for the holidays.
So here's what we're suggesting: Should we upgrade our forum?
Specifically to here: [x]
What upgrading means:X-- NSFW/gore content will be allowed (and it will be better monitored) X-- Our own domain name X-- We can still keep our forum set up (and this gives us a chance to clean up our layout)X-- MORE STUFF The main "issue" however is that this means having to pay a total of $10.00 a month. Now, you all know I waste our cult's funds on Danimals, so that means we'll need your help. A donation button/function connecting to a cult owned paypal will be set up to handle all this. This paypal will also later serve as a means of selling merch so we can continue to afford the upgrade and host giveaways and the like. You of course aren't required to donate but hey, if Bernie Sanders can run his entire Presidential Campaign through people's donations I think we can afford to scramble together ten measly bucks to have a kickass forumAs always comments, questions, and concerns can be listed below. We'll have this poll run until February 29th. Update as of 2/9/2016: I've been in contact with a representative of forums.net and inquired about transferring the forum and accounts. I have a few questions:
If the forum is moved onto this new place, will all the posts and stuff remain where they are? If they won't, will there be an archive? I'm assuming donating is optional, but is it? About the NSFW and gore and stuff, will the forum as a whole become age restricted or will it just be those posts? Will we get full, 100% guarantee that the Cult Funds won't be misspent/used for selfish purposes?
Thanks for your consideration of these, and if the forum does make the shift, I'm sure 300-ish people can scrounge up 10 USD a month.

We can't test that until we do move, however the forum we'd like to move to is run by the same group (Proboards) that we currently work off so more than likely we can just import all of our posts and the like over to the new forum. On the off chance we can't there will most definitely be an archive. Donating is 100% optional. Welcomed, but optional. As far as the NSFW/gore hooplah goes the staff is currently discussing how to handle that. Proboards works through HTML and plugins, so it's plausible for us to make our NSFW/gore boards password/age restricted. You have my word that these funds won't be missused, and once we get the official Cult Blog going I'll see about posting statements of the money transactions. |

I completely agree with Skele here, and every reason she listed.
Personally, I really don't want to have to link ongoing RPs in the new forum just to continue them, or worse yet, post everything previous in a bulk ― I quite like having everything in one place
. I mean, to many people the forum's sole purpose is Roleplays, and it would be a huge shame to pull everything apart in such a way, and rather unfair towards the rpers...
People would lose their post counts too, and saved threads and posts (without having to navigate to the archive), and frankly I'd quite like to keep the comments and conversations on the sona pages for sentimental reasons. That's an entire year of experiences and memories in this ole forum... And whilst I recognise that nothing would be lost, an archive and a start-anew is still anything but beneficial.
Granted, I like my NSFW and gore as much as my next neighbour, but not that much. I think upgrading sounds like it's just not worth it, not to mention that everything would happen AGAIN in reverse in case we have to stop premium due to financing.
If we could migrate the forum to proboards as it is, with accounts and all, I would support it, but with the current situation of archiving everything and starting anew ― It gets a very big, and very worried 'No' from me...

Both your arguments are valid and list all the issues that come with moving. A number of these issues weren't discovered until after the idea to move was created however I felt it was important for people to still cast a decision. As it stands the majority is currently against moving, and after today there will only be 7 days left to vote. There are certainly benefits that come with the move however as you've both stated, there are some heavy issues. There's several things we could do to try and make the new forum as similar to this one, such as going in a personally re-adding post counts and such.
But, I do thank you for expressing your concerns! I think you speak on behalf of a majority of members (if the poll count has anything to say about it.) Once the voting ends the Chandeliers will look over the results and a decision will be made.

So this is just a quick ramble from me, (note that it is late but i was thinking about this) with the move yes it might be a little inconvenient to have to link your current rps and such, but also think about how this can help with the future of the cult. With this we can edit and reform the forum to look a lot nicer and not be limited by outside rules, it can let us advertise better to others as well with both advertising on our forums and others, to make it so we reach a wide veriety of people who might be interested in joining. Because our forum is still very new (even though it might not feel it as our 1 year is slowly catching up) the move would be easier to do now then later on when we might have a lot more people and said people would want a better organized and prettier formate for rps and chats to be held in.
Thats just my little thoughts on the matter, again i know there may be some problems but it doesnt mean we cant face them, every community has its bumpy road!

I think this is the classic debate on whether the current members are willing to give away something guaranteed, the stuff we have now, for the possibility of greater advertisement and exposure in future. Another interesting point is that it would in fact be more difficult to move in future and by not moving, a stagnation of the current forums might occur. It also causes the admins and mods to have a harder time keeping events on the forum up and constantly trying to be creative to keep the cult fun.
