[ Attempt to rescue Jeu for Team Tapi ]
A precarious gamble It hadn't exactly been meant to be a rescue mission.Much rather, the Reverend couldn't just sit in the mansion and fear for his home nor the church to be torn down by a revolting forest, by god, he wouldn't just wait for his belongings to be pulled inside out! Both buildings were off-side and protected by spells, but what's a bit of petty dabbling in magic he didn't fully grasp in comparison to the might of a vengeful unicorn? He didn't dare hope, no matter how lucky one could possibly get, that everything would be even remotely safe. So, Mateus ended up trying to make his way through the thicket of the forest, making sure to steer clear of the main turmoil where the forest attacked the manor ― The ground was shifting beneath his feet, vines slithering over the ground like snakes in a pit, occasionally grabbing at his ankles even. He barely even recognised his surroundings, only few points of orientation left, and more than once the demon had to free himself from the grasp of lesser tendrils, or climb over vines thicker than the trunk of many a tree. It was as if the forest didn't want him to progress, which was more than just a little likely, but slowly and steadily the surroundings became more familiar; he was well on his way home. At some point the demon stumbled across something he didn't expect: It was like a cut in the scenery, as if thick vines had made their way through foliage, changing the pattern of growth in their wake; leaving a path of fresh green trying to fix the damage. Mateus wouldn't have paid much attention to it, wouldn't he have caught a whiff of something certainly familiar. A forked tongue flicked out from behind askew fangs to taste the air, and there was no mistaking it ― Jeu had been here, and he could smell Azzan too. That couldn't possibly mean any well. oGDYGDZb

Originally the Reverend had meant to check up on his belongings, but frankly, this seemed far more important at the moment. So he ended up following the trail for quite some time, relieved to see that it was easier to walk an already beaten path than climb over hedge and ditch as he has had to before. Mateus could practically feel the forest grow beneath his feet, as if it was hastily trying to correct its mistake now that it had been discovered, plants sprouting out of nowhere and vines threading themselves together in a net soon covering the ground. It was getting more and more difficult not to trip, or get tangled up by these headstrong plants, and in his struggle of staying afoot Mat realised too late that he wasn't able to discern this winding path anymore. The forest had succeeded in covering up its tracks. So now he had to rely on his sense of smell, or more accurately taste, to find his way; mouth hanging slightly agape and tongue occasionally flicking out in a surprisingly serpentine manner ― Thankfully he hadn't lost the track, and just when he didn't even have to pay much attention to it anymore, there was a very familiar voice calling out for help.
"Good Lord, what have you gotten yourself into!" The demon called back as he stepped into sight, and he actually had to look up to meet Jeu's gaze. He was by her side in no time, already trying to figure out how to get her down from there. "Wait, here, let me ... let me help you..." Mateus mumbled, and he could just barely reach the main vine wrapped around her middle. It didn't budge by an inch, and so instead he dug his claws deep into the vine, something alike tree sap leaking out where the plant was harmed ― But he didn't aim to tear: Instead the green started to grow black around the edges where his hands were, green skin blistering and curling in on itself, an almost sickeningly sweet stench emerging as the heat ate its way through the growth. Mat had to be careful so he wouldn't accidentally burn Jeu too, but in the end the vine cracked apart, lesser tendrils snapping too as they couldn't support her weight alone. He actually managed to catch Jeu so she wouldn't fall, the other cultist held in both arms, not quite sure whether she would manage to stand on her own two feet if put down. ...Or rather, whether she could float, he supposed? Not like she had feet.
" - ―You two alright there?"

Mateus was glad to see Azzan, and it seemed like the little one was just as happy to see him. " ―Hey there big boy!" He chuckled in response, and Mat let the young cambion grab at him in greeting, scrunching his face up at the tiny claws getting caught in his beard. He ended up making a small clicking noise at the hatchling, before returning his attention to Jeu.
She seemed eager to be put down again, but honestly Mat wasn't quite sure whether he actually dared to let her down, fearing she would just hurt herself out of exhaustion... It was a long, long way back to the manor, and Jeu didn't look like she would manage that at the moment. But it didn't really help, so with a sigh he carefully let her down in the end, one hand kept on the other's back and ready to support her in case walking [floating?] didn't work out. "Honestly, you don't look too well, I can carry you no problem." Mateus pointed out with his brows furrowed in clear worry, and he was getting slightly uneasy standing here. He would rather get moving, away from this place and out of the woods, lest they both end up in the same situation Jeu had been tangled up in. "At least put an arm around me..." The demon added then, this last remark mumbled, certainly still sounding concerned. The sooner they got to the manor, the sooner Jeu could get patched up and catch some sleep.

"Up you go then." The Reverend mumbled, matter-of-fact, the shorter cultist easily picked up again. Jeu was a lot of things, but by god, she was not heavy, and Mat would have sworn high-and-holy that he would be able to carry her the entire way twice. Whether his back would actually be fine with that in the long run was a different question. Either way Mat adjusted his grip a little, trying not to accidentally place his hands anywhere awkward, before moving back the way he came from; heading straight for the manor. There was a last glance at the vines now certainly slithering about in search for their captive; and he wondered how Famosity could just leave living breathing beings to hang in these woods! Vulnerable and left to possibly starve! It was an outrage, really, and if the unicorn hadn't already been in his disgrace ― Well, she certainly was now.
A noose out of vines, and a unicorn as a gallow's judge... The thought alone made a shiver crawl up the priest's spine.
