(This species is still in the works. As such new information will added when it's figured out)
Seelie | Unseelie
*~~~SEELIE~~~* “Good"/Less Devious | Associated with the Day
*~General~* The Seelie are surface kind. While they have rules and regulations they still are inherently wicked creatures. Despite this they keep up a pretense of kindness.
*~Government~* Unlike the Unseelie, the Seelie have a structured government- a Parliament to be exact. At the top is their Prime Minister, Odette. Officials consist of the oldest and most trusted fae, with Odette being voted as Prime Minister for being the most fair and honest out of everyone. Serious offenses are sent to her and she will hand out punishment as she sees fits (can occasionally result in binding* or an ousting from the court) While consistently boasting their fairness, it should be noted this is only in relation to themselves. Supposedly see every situation as unique and grant them all equal importance. All Seelie are to be present/involved during meetings hosted by their town/city/area's presiding official.
*~Etiquette~* -Greet one another using their true names while giving false ones to other creatures. -Oaths are made with a sweep of the palm over the chest, press of two fingers to the lips and holding of the fingers up, whispering "On my honor"
*~Identifiers~* -Lighter skin -Human-like eyes -Bird wings -Upturned ears -Uncomfortably Beautiful
*~Specific Abilities~* Seelie are gifted with plant and animal manipulation. They’re also able to harvest and use the the energy of elements but cannot create said elements. (Ex: Can make water turn to ice but cannot just create water/ice) Communicating with different creatures, having enhanced “green thumbs”, etc... are a few more examples of their abilities.
*~~~UNSEELIE~~~* “Bad”/Devious | Associated with the Night
*~General~* The Unseelie are notorious for cruel behavior. Their trickery knows no bounds and their morals are practically non-existent.
*~Government~* A monarchy is a loose term for what the Unseelie have. Reigning over them is Raala, known as the Mother King. The Unseelie work more in a manner where the strongest/smartest are considered royalty. There’s 10 Fae in line for the throne currently, all of them incredibly powerful or conniving in a way which puts them above others of their court. Assassinations, foul-play, and many other dirty methods are used by the Unseelie in hopes of usurping one another. Crimes committed are only dealt with if they’re personal and they’re normally dealt with by the involved parties. The Unseelie have no problem stepping on one another and degrading each other in their own personal conquests however their spite towards the Seelie give them all a similar hate, thus helping to keep a semblance of order.
*~Etiquette~* There is none, formal at the least. The closest thing to it is recognition of Raala as the Mother King and the 10 Princes/Princesses
*~Identifiers~* -Darker skin -Black sclera with a pupil a shade lighter than the color of the iris -Bug wings -Downturned ears -Beauty is intimidating and unnerving
*~Specific Abilities~* Unseelie wear near-constant glamours to hide what’s otherwise notably scary bodies/faces. Times the glamours drop are when they’ring a soul/human. Their jaws unhinge, teeth sharpen, and eyes darken to black wing souls. Although they don’t have magical manipulation like the Seelie the Unseelie are incredibly sharp-witted, mental powers even being a possibility.
*~~~OVERARCHING STUFF~~~*
*~Names~* Fae have three names.
- True name: Holds the most power over them. Normally not given (however the Seelie know most of each others)
- Taken name: The name they take as a placeholder for their true name. It does hold power over them but is more like a signature- only binding when it comes to deals and such
- Given name: Fae can become known for certain things and be given a name in relation to it (Think Rumpelstiltskin) This is more often then not the name they tell others as it has the absolute least power over them. Can also just be whatever name they give a person.
*~Bindings~* There are multiple ways to bind a Fae. They are (but not limited to):
- Iron. Fae are very weak to it. This metal will sear their flesh and render them unable to use their abilities. It’s one of the ultimate protectants against them.
- Names can bind a Fae. If you get their true name you can pretty much make them do whatever you want. If they end up making a deal with you using it or their taken name, that deal is binding and must be fulfilled.
- Wings are another way to bind them. Magic, rope, chains, whatever, can be used to bind their wings however it’s the intention behind the act that truly does it. You could drape a blanket on their wings and they’d be fine unless you had the intention of binding them while doing it. This isn’t a foolproof binding method so you should always add options 1. Or 2. When you do this one.
*~Wings~* The Seelie have bird-based wings and the Unseelie have bug/insect based ones. A wings size/style will determine their flight ability and speed. For instance, an Unseelie might have dragonfly wings. They can zip around at pretty quick speeds but only for short times, as opposed to one who might have butterfly wings. Due to the differences in the species the Fae’s wings have however, it’s almost always going to be that a Seelie will have longer flight time while an Unseelie has quicker.
*~Creating vs Taking~* Fae cannot create- the most being the occasional successful birth. (This includes both Fae/Fae and Fae/Other species) As such, they tend to steal/use items that can create for them. Fae rely on Changelings to help further their species (discussed below). They use magically inclined items to help them, like trinkets that warp space for storage, clothes to enhance their glamours, etc. The only “creation” like ability the Fae have is their glamours, which are more a warping of the space around them as opposed to actually creating something.
*~Glamours~* Every Fae is able to use glamour. They’re a species notorious for it and have mastered it. Glamour can be the difference between you thinking you’re walking with a human when really they’re a fae. There are ways to tell you’re caught in a glamoured space- there’s always something off. Maybe the numbers on the clock are backwards, or everythings has a slight sheen to it. It’s easier to tell if you’ve been caught in a glamour if it’s of a familiar place. As for the Fae glamouring themselves, you should pretty much just always assume they are. As aforementioned with the Unseelie, glamours can be dropped in certain situations where their focus is elsewhere.
*~Souls~* Fae can eat souls. Normally it’s a result of a deal, though they’re known to hang out around soul clusters and mess with them/anyone who goes looking for them. Interestingly enough, a Fae can eat another Fae’s soul however it has serious repercussions. While eating another’s soul will give a Fae their powers plus the ones they already had (Think Unseelie eating a Seelie) it will also cause a “malfunction” within the eater. The two courts are in such opposition of one another that it transcends to their very souls. An Unseelie and Seelie soul trying to inhabit a body together will drive the host to insanity and in most cases death. Those who don’t die drift outside the courts normally, outcast for their lunacy and sin. If a Fae who’d become this way ever managed to be sane again however they’d be a force to be reckoned with. This has not happened yet.
*~Changelings~* Because of their inability to create, Fae rely on stealing. This stretches out to them stealing human children and spiriting them away to the Faerie realm. Once there the Fae magic and overall ether will begin to affect the child. Two things will happen then:
- They’ll begin transforming into a Fae. Depending on which kind of Fae stole them and the acts the changeling commits, they’ll become the coinciding type. The final change for them from human to Fae is when they grow their wings and forget their humanity.
- The human doesn’t take to the magic and instead becomes addicted to it. These changelings are identified by having plants, crystals, or fae magic tainting them. (Ex: A human with roses growing out their body, or with their body stained with fae magic.)
There are Fae who like to take children more just for play then anything else. These Fae will wisk away a human child and keep them until they begin to grow older. Once the child reaches puberty they’re tossed aside, regardless of whether they’re changing into a Fae or have become addicted to Fae magic. While those transitioning into a Fae stand a good chance of surviving afterwards, those who haven’t risk death unless taken in by another Fae. It should also be noted that the addiction to Fae magic can seriously deplete a human’s life if they don’t stay in the Faerie Realm where it’s a constant/in abundance for them.
*~Rivalry~* The Seelie and Unseelie loathe each other, and that’s putting it lightly. Literally day and night to one another the two are in constant opposition and always causing issue for the other. This translates in many ways, like fashion. It’s not uncommon to see a Fae wearing their oppositions wings/related creature in some way shape or form. (Think a dress made of Unseelie butterfly wings, or a coat made of Seelie bird feathers) Many times if a Fae is wearing another’s wings they’ve killed that Fae themself.
*~Switching Sides~* For a fae to switch sides, they also have to go about acting as the other court would. Say a Seelie wants to switch. They need to commit the sorts of acts and live the way the Unseelie do, which will cause them to become "corrupted" and slowly change over to that court. It'll create that shift from Seelie powers to Unseelie, and the final bit of the transition is when that courts ruler gives/changes the switching Fae’s wings into their new courts kind. If that doesn't happen the Fae will become lost between the two courts and probably go crazy/be cast out.
*~Faeries Made So Far~* Seelie: Odette- (Prime Minister/Ruler) Aurora (Odette's sister) Hood Fleur
Unseelie: Raala- (Mother King/Ruler) Modestus- (1st for throne) xxx- (still a wip, 2nd for throne) Stasya/Sisu- (8th for throne)
Those Inbetween: Kazimieras/ "Kyle"- (6th for Unseelie throne, ate a Seelie soul) Cry- (Seelie turning Unseelie) Luca Fulbright- (Changeling addicted to magic)
**There are still slots for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th Fae in line for the Unseelie throne. If you’re interested in creating one of them please shoot me a message so we can talk it over!**
