Daniel had always been a gifted student, but didn’t have encounters with beasts until his early 20s. He was quite the skeptic, ignoring the traditions of his rural hometown and choosing to study chemistry in Rio. He returned to find his home terrorized by a so called monster. Not believing this, Daniel sought out to find whatever beast was causing his friends and family anguish, and met a wasp Phobia named Steek. Needless to say his view on the world changed after that, and he got to work studying to find a way to rid the town of the creature. He found himself gifted in magical arts, but didn’t learn enough in time before the crazed Phobia killed the woman he was to marry. Enraged, he sought to kill the creature, and met Keoma, who had heard tales about Phobias and traveled to study them. He helped Daniel capture the beast, and extended an invitation to Dan to join the Puppeteers and subdue the dream demon they had captured. Daniel became a Master in a surprisingly short time, branding Steek as his first beast and forever sparing innocents of the terrors the insect caused. Like Keoma, he uses narcotics to study beasts, and has only branded one other, a fresh water mermaid that remains in the Amazon.
