The moss was cold against Dippers skin, slowly leeching the warmth from his fingertips, his toes... Wait... Could he even feel those anymore? He tried to shift to a more comfortable position as the tingling sensation from his ankle seemed to die down.
Instant regret. The pain shot up again cause him to yell out in pain, despite his throat long rubbed raw from the hours screaming for help.
He gritted his teeth and tried to breathe steadily through his nose. He could start to see wisps at every exhale... It was getting dark. Stupid! No one knew where he was- idiot! ...Not in some god damn shallow pit at least. One root was all it took- How could I be such a moron...
Dipper slammed his fist against the log he had slumped next to, not feeling the small flecks of mud and bark fall away at every attack.

Mabel's leg bounced quickly in agitation, her fingers drumming against the tabletop at a similar speed. She was annoyed- so, so annoyed. Her lips pursed slightly before she puffed out her cheeks and exhaled a rather dramatic sigh.
Stupid Dipper and his stupid journal. She'd asked him to help her out with her knitting days ago but no! He just haaaad to go explore some dumb new monster he'd stumbled across in that ratty old book instead.
Her leg stopped only for the other to pick back up the bounce, this time just a little slower. Although she was annoyed at him....he'd been gone for a while now...Her body stilled and she shot a glance out the kitchen window.
They'd argued earlier over him ditching her and then he'd stormed out yelling about finding the new creature on his own. While Dipper was prone to getting caught up in his adventures, four hours was pushing it. He should have come home by now, at least to grab a snack or Pitt Cola before heading out again. Mabel bit her lip in thought before abruptly standing up and pushing away from the table.
She'd just go do a quick run around the immediate woods- keep the Shack in sight just beyond the tree line. Then she could look for Dipper without risking getting lost. Mabel headed to the front entrance and pulled on her flats. She spotted the emergency flashlight on the shelf next to the door but opted not to take it. She still had a good hour before the sun went down and even if it did- her sweater was glow in the dark!
She'd be fine.

Mud squelched under Dippers nails as he tried to pull himself up against the bank. He argued against himself to look below his knee and attempted to focus on getting himself out of the shallow depression on the forest floor. His arms quivered under his own weight as damp grass and gravity worked against him. Every time he stopped moving, he could feel his body gradually sliding back down.
Like it was pulling him.
Dipper shook his head and tried to focus in the dark, struggling to get a grip on his surroundings. Looking wildly about- not too much to the left though, it hurt to do that- He gave it his all and heaved himself to the top of the bank. Collapsing on the now flat yet damp forest floor, dipper felt the clovers under him would be of some relief to his sweating skin, but it just continued to sap the remaining heat from his body.
The quivering in his arms continued, creeping into his shoulders. Soon his whole body was shaking. Dipper Cursed as he could see himself- Shivering and curled up under the night sky, with nothing but a broken leg that would -maybe- cut his life short. Would anyone find him? Maybe nothing but white bleached bones- "Shut it" He hissed, teeth chattering. The thoughts he had been putting off since his initial fall started to bubble through as his mind dimmed with exhaustion. Something made him jolt awake again, not it being the pain in his leg.
A light flickered through the trees. He could now see Mabel, running through the woods, frantically trying to find him, yelling out desperately. She was elated to see him, she could pick him up with ease, drag him back to the shack, warm blankets and soup ready-
Silence.... and coldness. His breath started to slow, not even causing a wisp of steam as his temperature lowered fast. He could feel nothing, not even the dull throbbing from his knee that reached his toes.

"Dipper!" Mabel's hoarse voice rang out into the quieting woods. The daylight had long since faded and now she had only the faint illumination of the glow-in-the ghost on her sweater to guide her. "Dipper? Dipper answer me- please!" She pressed her hand to her throat, a feeble attempt to ease the soreness that had set in after screaming for her brother.
She'd been out long enough for it to officially be night...and to get lost. Stopping and leaning against a tree Mabel wrapped her arms around herself and squinted into the thick foliage ahead. She had three options.
Stay put and wait for someone to come find her, like she was told as a child
Keep going and maybe find Dipper
Or head back in what she assumed was the direction she had come and try to make it back to the shack.
A faint shiver coursed through her, the cool night air seeming to slip past the barricade of her clothes. Her hands rubbed at her arms, trying to create friction and some kind of warmth. Dipper knew these woods better then her...maybe he'd made it home already? Or maybe he was out searching for her? Or...Mabel shook her head and tightened her grip on her arms. She had to be optimistic!
Bending down she blindly ran her hand across the forest floor, looking for- ah! He fingers wrapped around a rock and she stood back up, grinning at her new bounty. Turning around she dug the rock into the bark of the tree she had been leaning on. A decent sized X marked the wood and Mabel nodded to her self. She'd mark these sides of every tree she passed so she could find her way back while she trekked on to find Dipper.
He wouldn't give up on her, so she wouldn't give up on him. Mabel carefully turned back around and moved ahead, determination and a tinge of fear etched into her expression.
