Birth of the Corrupted(The story of Enfer's birth mother and what happened to her)The year was Febuary 14, 1692 the time of the Salem Witch Trials. Everyone within the town of Salem was on edge after the accusation of witchcraft was confirmed, anyone who was proven to be a witch was to be hanged or burned at the stake. Many women were fearful of what may happen to them so they stayed home, avoiding any contact with others which only caused suspicions to grow, but one woman in the town remained calm throughout the entire ordeal. Her name was Elizaveta Bloodrose. She was a strange one, born with hair as black as night and eyes red as rubies. She wore a red and black dress that covered her feet, setting her out from all the others. She was also married to Merik Nightingale, her husband who loved her very much. In her hands was a wicker basket full of items for a newborn. Fabric to sew clothes, a glass baby bottle, and a few toys for the child to play and chew on. You see, Elizaveta was pregnant...she was told by the doctor that she would be due any day now. She never asked when because she wanted it to be a surprise for when her love and joy was born. She walked through the center of town, passing by other townfolk who gossiped about her, but she paid them no mind as they talked amongst herself.
"There she goes again."
"She's a weird one, I'm amazed she hasn't been accused to be a witch."
"I agree...with those strange eyes and how she dresses, there's no way she's human."
"I bet her child will be just as bad."
The group of men and women chuckled and snickered as Elizaveta paused mid-step, opening her eyes and glanced back at the group of people. She didn't want to start anything so she took a breath and continued on her way home. When she reached her home she smiled and knocked on the door, speaking in a sugar sweet voice,"Dear, it's me...I've gotten more things for the baby." The sound of footsteps approaching the door could be heard as the door was unlocked and a male with short navy blue hair and light blue eyes was seen, his pupils were slits and his ears had a point to them but anything else about him would make him look completely human in which he was not. He held a loving gaze as he stepped to the side to let her into the house.
"Welcome back, my love," The man said as he nuzzled up to her, taking the basket from her hands and setting it on a table. "Thank you..Ah!" Elizaveta fell to her knees, holding her stomach as her husband ran over to her. "Elizaveta, what's wrong?!" He asked, worry evident in his eyes. "T-The baby...it's the baby Merik, I can feel it coming!" She cried, her eyes wide and filled with tears.
Merik's eyes turned wide as he heard this and carefully helped her to her feet and led her to the bedroom and laid her on the bed as he went to the windows and closed them so no one could see inside. "Okay, don't worry, I'm here for you through all of this," Merik said as he walked to the bedside and held her hand as Elizaveta squeezed his hand tightly and her breathing sped up and she let out a cry of pain. Merik's sensitive ears twitched from the high pitched shriek she let out, he new this was gonna be having to give his ears a rest after this.
A couple hours had passed and Elizaveta had given birth, but it wasn't that of a baby, rather it was a fairly large stripped egg, a dragon egg to be precise. She held the egg in her arms and smiled when she held it up to the light to see a small figure curled up on the inside. "Our precious hatchling will be so beautiful when they hatch," she said as Merik carefully took the egg from her and wrapped it in a warm blanket that he had heated up. "It'll be about a day or two before we see what they look like," Merik said, handing her the egg back. "I can wait...for now let's just keep it safe and pray that no one finds it," Elizaveta said as she ran he hand along the smooth surface of the shell. Merik nodded and sat beside her and put a hand over hers, smiling at the egg.
~Time Skip~ A couple days passed since Elizaveta gave birth to child of her and Merik. She was told by her husband that it should be ready to hatch today and she was so excited to see her beautiful child. She was out once again today, having gotten more things for the child...this time she carried a basket full of flowers. She was going to use them to decorate the crib and brighten the room for the baby. She smiled happily as she walked through town, suddenly being stopped by one of the townsfolk. It was rare that any of them spoke to her. "Uh...hello, what can I do for you?" She asked, slightly nervous as she moved her arm out of the persons grasp. "Hello, Elizaveta...oh, it seems you had your baby?" A female asked, noticing her stomach had flattened. The red eyed woman nodded, not giving a spoken answer. "So where is your little bundle of joy...we're all dying to see it," Another woman added. This caused her to gulp nervously, she couldn't allow anyone to see her child, she knew they would be killed on the spot if they saw what it was. "Th-They're with...with their father...he took them to the doctor to check for any illnesses," She said with a nervous smile that caused the others to narrow their eyes and give her a skeptical look. "Ah yes, your husband...the one who you speak of yet we never see..." The first woman said, her arms crossed as she glowered at Elizaveta causing her to become twice as worried.
"Well...umm, I must be going, he should be home by now...goodbye..." She quickly avoided the question and walked away as fast as she could, leaving many people suspicious of her actions. As she got home, she quickly knocked on the door, crying out for Merik to hurry as she ran into the house and quickly locked the door behind her. "Elizaveta what's wrong...you seem stressed," Merik said, putting a hand on her shoulder as Elizaveta set her basket on the counter and quickly turned toward him, her eyes wide with fear as she cried out,"Merik! Everyone is becoming suspicious...if this continues--our baby! Our baby will--! Oh god I can't stand the thought of loosing another one of our children!" Elizaveta fell to her knees, covering her face with her hands as she trembled, silently sobbing at the thought of loosing her baby once again. The two had already had two children, each one suffered the same fate of being killed. Merik got down on his knees and pulled her close, running a hand through her inky black hair and whispering sweet things to her so she would calm down. "That won't happen again...I promise you," Merik said in a soft voice. Elizaveta nodded, as she looked up at him with tear stained cheeks as he wiped them away with his thumb before kissing her head. "Everything will be fine; we'll be a family just how we wanted," Merik said as he pulled her up to her feet again.
Their sweet moment together was soon interrupted by the sound of a small squeak and the sound of cracking. The two quickly rushed into the bed room where the egg resided in a nest made of warm blankets and pillows. The egg was hatching. The first thing that was seen was a small grey tail, two legs soon followed after it, then a pair of arms with wings and finally the shell cracked enough for the head to break through to show a baby Wyvern, no bigger than a kitten. Its scales were a light grey with a navy blue underbelly and violet spines. The tiny creature opened its mouth and roared, sounding a lot like the squeak of a lion cub. Both parents laughed as the baby tumbled out of it's shell and continued to squeak. Elizaveta approached the squeaking dragon and was careful as she picked it up and cradled it close. The little hatchling then opened it's eyes showing they were red with green scleras. The baby grinned and squeaked even louder, nuzzling up to it's mother. "Oh, a boy...he's precious," Elizaveta chimed, giggling as he nuzzled up to her. "What should we name him?" Merik asked, as he ran a hand along the hatchlings head, earning a happy squeak. "Hmm, what about Enfer?" She said, admiring the red eyes of the hatchling. "Enfer? Doesn't that mean hell?" Merik asked. "Yes, but you told me your species originally comes from there, so why not name the child after your original homeland?" Elizaveta stated with a smile, holding out her finger as little Enfer took it in his tiny claws and squeezed it. "Hmm, alright...Enfer it is," Merik said, wanting it to be her decision of what to name him. "Enfer Bloodrose...our precious hatchling," she chimed, nuzzling her cheek against the baby's.
Unaware to the two, one of the townsfolk had seen the child, their eyes wide with fear as they stumbled back. "W-Witch...they're witches...all of them...Everyone! Everyone! Witches! Witches among us!" The man cried as he ran.
Merik and Elizaveta heard the cry and began to panic. They had found out. "Oh god, no, please no..." Elizaveta muttered to herself, holding Enfer close to her chest. "We will be fine...hurry, wrap the baby in a blanket and we'll leave through the back door," Merik ordered. He was not going to let these humans do anything to his child nor his wife. Elizaveta was surprised by the demanding tone he held but she nodded and grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around Enfer then laid him in a basket. "Alright...let's go, hurry!" Merik shouted as he grabbed her hand an ran out the exit in the back of the house, pulling his wife with him as she held the basket tightly and ran after him away from the town as fast as they could. She was panting heavily as she kept up with Merik, looking down at the child in the basket, giving her the strength to keep going.
Back in Salem the townsfolk had already broken into their home, in search of the family. They had found the back door and chased after them, torches in hand as they shouted angrily, spitting swears and curses at the people who they accused to be witches.
The two parents could hear the footsteps in the distance. Elizaveta knew they would be caught at this rate and came to a stop. "Elizaveta? We need to keep running," Merik stated, giving her hand a gentle tug to encourage her to keep going but she didn't move as she handed him the basket with Enfer in it. "No...I'm sorry but at this rate we'll be captured...I can't allow you or our son to be killed by this people. I beg of you...fly away, take Enfer somewhere where he can live without fear," She pleaded with him, taking her hands off the handle of the basket once Merik had it tight in his gasp. She wore a mournful smile and looked at the hatchling, tears welling up in her eyes as she cradled him one last time. "I'm sorry my little one...this will be the last time we shall see each other...but this is the only way I can make sure your safe, please live a happy life and remember that I loved you to my last breath," she said, tears starting to stream down her face as she pressed her forehead to his, whispering "I love you" over and over again. She hesitantly moved away from the hatchling and set him in the basket again, approaching Merik and giving him a quick kiss as the sound of footsteps grew closer. "I'm sure you'll do fine with him," She said, caressing his cheek with a genuine smile before taking a step back giving him a look that told him he should leave right away. Merik was so hesitant but he had no other choice. His form began to shift into that of a giant wyvern that towered over her as he leaned down to nuzzle his muzzle up against her, the basket held in his talons as he opened his wings and flying off.
Elizaveta watched him fly off with a smile and waved. "Goodbye my precious ones...I love you..." She said under her breath before she was caught and pinned to the ground. She had been dragged back to the town and tied to a wooden stake in the center, dry grass and straw being put at her feet before it was set a blaze in a golden flame. Elizaveta could feel the flames nip at her feet as he dress soon began to catch fire, but she didn't hold a look of fear. She wore a calm smile, glad that she was able to save the lives of her loved ones as the golden flames soon engulfed her.
