Plot Idea: While on separate mission/jobs, Lydia and Evelyn end up running into each other, causing a bit of trouble for them both. According to the job description, today's mission was simple enough. There'd been a power outage up at the governor's manor, and a couple of wild beasts he'd been keeping as pets took the chance to escape. The list was a bit bizarre, but unsurprising: one lion, two lionesses, one Bengal tiger, three peacocks and one peahen, a beast which was allegedly a swamp monster (picture provided), and a couple German Shepherds that had gone running off the wild animals. It was a little unlike her usual work in that she had to return them tot he manor, but it just meant she'd be making several trips.
As the biggest threat, Lydia found herself carefully searching through a heavy bog for the swamp beast, searching for any abnormal signs of life. Frogs croaked loudly around her, bugs buzzing around her face only for her to burn them with a small incantation and a snap of her fingers. The occasional bird alerted her of the growing lateness, and she wondered vaguely if bringing such a magical and powerful beast back to the manor was even a good idea. If it had required restraints the first time it had been caught there, she hastened to think of what she would need to do to sedate the beast.
As the evening fog began to roll in, Lydia made her way through the reeds and undergrowths to a willow tree swaying in the wind. She relaxed on the firmer ground at its base; her hiking boots had long become coated with mud, and her jeans stuck uncomfortably to her skin. Wearing a sleeveless dark green button-up had both been a savior and a curse: she wasn't as hot as she would be in a heavier garment, but it was eating away at her stamina to kill all these damn mosquitos. Maybe it'd be best to start heading back to town and tell the governor it was a lost cause.

Today was supposed to be of significance. For what reason, it was only known to the ones giving orders and the individual receiving them. Once the sun had submerged itself below the murky horizon, that was when Evelyn was called in to have a word with one of the higher rankings. They gave her a specific task to complete before sunrise: spy beyond the town's limits and pick up any suspicious conversation or behavior. The Candle Demon was elated to have a job to do. Perhaps it was because of her new place in the cult? She had just moved up the chain, and she got the notion that she now had a bit more freedom.
Downing her large, dark cloak, Evelyn silently drifted through the empty streets with her hood down, candles flickering intently. Once she reached the woods, the girl came to a momentary stand-still. Within seconds, her body was encased in shadows, the flames dimly remaining. Now it was time to fulfill her duty. With uncanny speeds, she all but flew through the forest, weaving expertly through the tall pine trees. It didn't take long for her surroundings to become altered.
The next thing she knew, a swamp manifested before her, the loud hum of crickets and frogs alike filling her ears. Like the God of Death, Evelyn swepts over the mud as if floating, invisible and lethal. Yet something caught her eye- No, not her own, but Ralph's. With a bored, id tone, he casually pointed out what appeared to be a person beneath a drooping willow. Yes, within the foggy distance she saw a silhouette. Narrowing her gaze, she drifted closer, unsure if she was able to recognize the one relaxing. It was indeed a rather odd place to rest, so it baffled Evelyn for a brief time. Yet something was familiar about them. She was keen on finding out.

Lydia's eyes were just drifting closed when a soft rustling through the reeds pricked her ears. She lifted her head, looking around for animals, but besides the crickets making there appearances (and none were so big to make such a noise) there were no large creatures about. Which, really, left the only possibility from the start. Someone was there. Her eyes shifted for a moment, a thin film growing around them as she looked specifically for the life energy of anyone.
The regular appearance of the world faded away to an almost pure black, only highlighted by the deep grays of the reeds and the small shapes of insects. She looked around, her head swiveling around until her eyes landed on a brighter, stronger life force not far from her. It was a different color from the normal humans she dealt with, which was slightly assuring, but was most certainly not was that it was also growing in sharpness, headed straight in her direction.
Lydia blinked again, returning to her normal vision. The faint outline of a person stood out to her, burned into her retinas with their energy, and she stood slowly, facing the person. "I know you're there," she said loudly.

Evelyn continued to slither along, only about a dozen feet from them. With the fog thickening it was difficult to distinguish key features of the female who was by the tree.
She halted, her inaudible breathing hitching in her throat. As the other peered right at her, her gaze tracked their every movement. As they spoke, it was odd to her- they knew where she was? She was even aware of her presence. A wicked grin settled on her lips, and she now stood much closer.
Like a cloak, the shadows lifted from her body, revealing her appearance fully. With her dark cowl up, she brushed herself off, tilting her head to the side, still smiling, "Hello to you! My deepest apologies for stumbling upon your resting spot." Evelyn Leigh chimed, and Ralph rolled his eye.

For a moment, Lydia simply watched as the figure stopped and revealed itself, and then upon hearing a greeting, she allowed herself to relax. At least they were slightly friendly, or at the very least trying to appear as such. The fog hazed her vision the more she squinted through it, but without the visual cloak in place she was able to pick out a couple highlights of the stranger.
Their too-wide grin stood out to her, at least, and Lydia's mind flitted to anyone she knew who fitted. None of them seemed exactly right, and at the very least, none of them were people she was comfortable with running into in such an odd manner. None were so close to her that she could identify them with so little to go on, more accurately. "Something tells me that that is a lie," she said neutrally, crossing her fingers that they were indeed as friendly as their skin appeared.

She pursed her lips, putting a hand to her heart, "Oh? What do you mean? Everything I have just previously spoken is nothing but truth! Lying isn't one of my big traits, you see." Evelyn replied with mirth, looking the other up and down, "Besides, if I were here to do you some real harm, I would have done it already! Not to mention, you look more friend than foe yourself."
With her hands now resting on her hips, she casually shifted her weight onto her other foot, cocking an eyebrow, "I am on a mission, anyways, friend. It's not about bothering you, I promise!" Evelyn could feel Ralphie snort- she knew he wanted nothing more than to mess up someone's day on a whim, but the candle demon didn't plan on executing his wills and requests.

Lydia grimaced, finding no comfort in the other's words, but resorted to stepping a little closer anyway. She raised an eyebrow at the other person's reassurance, and squinted a little more in the growing darkness for anything else that'd help her identify the stranger. "I've met you somewhere before, I believe," she said. The blue flames sprouted on either side of the stranger's head provided some luminance by which to see, but it was hardly enough to see more than the edges of a person on a silhouette.
She extended her left hand just enough, snapping her fingers to summon forth a ball of blue flames. "What type of mission would that be, exactly?" she asked, a little louder than she would have normally. She turned her head to the side a bit, scouring the figure once more with her right eye. No weapons appeared visible, but there did seem to be almost another presence there; either hidden or making up some of the person she could see on the surface. Odd.

She gave a wicked grin, tapping her index fingers together, "Really now? What a treat then! Meeting familiar people always brings 'round such a happy time, don't you think?" Evelyn chirped, eyes narrowing. It was still difficult to make out detailed features of the other in front of them, although that blue, fiery ball of energy confirmed her suspicions that they were part of the cult as well.
"What fun would that be if I told you my secret? Top secret, to be clear." Her melodious voice drifted through the fog, settling in all of the spaces in between, "But why are you here? It'd only be fair to ask in return, don't you think?"
Her voice was almost like a tease.

She shrugged at the first question, finding no reason to not agree. "I suppose that could be said to be true," Lydia mused. "I don't make a habit out of creating enemies, so I should hope that all the familiar faces I come across are pleasant sights." She paused, smiling a little at the other's playful tone. It reminded her of a trickster or demon, and as she was fairly sure they were a member of the Cult, it was very likely that they were one of the two.
Her ears pricked at the idea of discovering the other's motives. She stepped forward, so that they were nary a yard apart; at close proximity she finally smiled wide. "I definitely know you," she said quieter, more to herself. She grinned with the revelation, the memory of her last encounter with Evelyn flashing in her mind. A treat indeed. "I'd have no qualms telling you my business here, as long as you speak of it to no one else," Lydia said amicably, her lips forming a thin smile.

She couldn't help herself to now have a rather cheesy and sheepish grin as the other got a bit closer, "You do indeed!" She replied, making a gesture that could be best described as presenting herself. She rubbed the back of her head, now taking on a less tense stance which now gave her the appearance of being relaxed. She could now make out more pronoun features. Yes, she also knew the other from their encounter at the little shop!
"Hm... Lydia, yes? Lydia was your name?" She inquired, brushing a feather from her cloak. Her lips pursed, "Of course I'd never release such important information! You don't take me as an open book do you?" She warbled in mock hurt, putting a finger to her chin. Although it was all in good fun.

Lydia grinned widely at Evelyn's antics. "That is indeed my name, Lydia. And yours, Evelyn, unless you have a twin," she said, bemused. "As for my business, the local governor had a bit of a, security problem, let's say, so I'm searching for some animals that are now apparently running amok," she said, gesturing to the bog around here. "Nothing particularly interesting," she shrugged.
"So what about you, Miss Evelyn?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "What's brought you out here?"

She shook her head, "No no, it's definitely Evelyn." She reaffirmed, crossing her arms over her chest. She listened intently to their task, nodding a few times to show that she was paying attention, "Oh? Well on the contrary, I find that to be very fun! You get to play zoo-keeper for a night!"
Rocking back and forth on her heels, she sighed, "I'm patrolling the area which includes here, the forest and the town. I'm looking out for suspicious activity or... hm.. something else. I'm not exactly sure- something about puppets I think. No no, that can't be right, that sounds so silly! Puppets- nothing about them except that I find those things to be rather creepy!"

Zookeeper. Lydia tried to hide how much the word bothered her, forcing herself to keep smiling. Despite her attempts, she could feel the flames in her hand flickering with her emotions. She looked to the side, squeezing he qualms into a ball and just barely listening while Evelyn described her mission.
Puppets? Her head shot up, eyes wide, at that. "Was something the matter at the Cult?" her muttered, slapping her free hand over her mouth when she realized she'd spoken aloud. Her face reddened, and she just nodded awkwardly to try and cover up her slip. "Sounds like maybe I shouldn't be stealing you away from that, then," Lydia said, rambling on, "since you seem to have such important work to do." She mentally cringed at her own words. God, she just needed to shut up. She'd made such a good first impression, too.

She took note of the other's rather forced emotions, causing her own smile to falter for a moment before going back to its regular, content glow. Evelyn blinked owlishly, "Not that I took notice of. I was in and out very quickly." She replied slowly.
The candle demon then frowned, her body turning away from the other ever so slightly, "I wouldn't say that stealing is the word." She mumbled, twirling a strand of waxy hair around her finger as she bit her lip. Well now she just felt awkward. Had she said something wrong? The other did seem upset, even though it wasn't exactly the most visible emotion.

She shrunk even more at how obviously uncomfortable Evelyn was, the other's words hardly passing through her ears. "If you're sure," she mumbled. Lydia looked around, almost hoping that the swamp monster she was looking for would come around just so that there would be some way to lighten the weight coming in with the fog.
Lydia thought back to the Cult, and of the last time she'd even dropped in. It'd been a couple days; she'd been planning to return this evening, but time had flown to fast and here she was, in a bog, far away from the candle shop that expanded out into the cult's main headquarters. She sighed slightly to herself, then looked back at Evelyn. "I hope you're right," she said quietly.
