“Okay, yeah, I wouldn’t mind having some.” She replied, her thanks showing in a small grin on her face. He could offer her plain sugarcubes and she would accept. She knew he wouldn’t really be going out of his way for her by giving her candy, but then again, she woke him up in the middle of the night just because of a bad dream and he was still hanging out with her. She felt as if she should offer him something in return, but she didn’t really have much to give either. Maybe she could learn how to bake or something to that effect.

He smiled. "I'll start keeping some in my tea cupboard. You can help yourself to as much as you like." That she took what he offered amazed him. It made him feel good, until he acknowledged what he was saying. He flushed purple, then shook his head at himself. "I just realized how creepy it must seem, me giving candy out to all these young cultists." Well, Eve was young. Aren was not, but he seemed young standing next to Tea. Then again, people always tended to seem young and small next to him. The point still stood. "Sorry about that. I swear I'm not lacing them with anything or whatever it is people do with candy these days." The worst that could happen would be if the candy somehow started tasting like his teas.

Eve gave a small pout at his comment of calling her young, her being naturally short not helping matters. She shifted her weight more onto her toes in a failed attempt to reduce the height difference between them. “I’m not that young,” she grumbled. “I’m nearly fifteen.” It was a second too late for her to realize how childish the comment sounded, as well as it not helping her case at all. Her cheeks reddened, and she was almost too caught up in newfound embarrassment that she had almost missed his next comment. “And uh… well, if you were trying to poison me, you wouldn’t admit it, right? Unless you’re trying to pull off some reverse psychology to trick me!” She joked, at least more than not.

Tea looked at her, then found himself grinning. He didn't bother to hide his fangs. "You have a point." Then he declared, "Sorry. Fifteen is still young to me. I'm going on seventy myself." He'd joke and say he were an old man if not for the fact there were milennia old demons in the cult.

Grins were contagious. The sight of his fangs would’ve offset her more if Eve met him when she first joined the cult; at this point, his scars and mark made her more uncomfortable than claws and fangs. “Seventy?” She repeated, some disbelief tracing her voice. “No wonder you called me young. I’m probably like a twelve-year-old to you.”

"Heh. Yeah. I'm your average baby boomer." At least he would have been if not for certain circumstances. He shook his head, quickly dispelling the thought. "You're young to me yes. Still doesn't mean you haven't seen your fair share of hell." He was sure there were in fact people in the Candle Cult who had seen actual hell. He wouldn't be surprised. In the words of one of his cultist companions, they were all mad here. In more ways than one.

Eve nodded along to his baby boomer comment as if she knew what it meant. She did recall hearing it once or twice, probably when she tagged along to one of her ward’s history classes, but she hadn’t really paid much attention to those anyways. As for her fair share of hell… “Yeah, well… I wouldn’t say seen since I kinda ran away once everything started happening.” The fallen angel admitted, her gaze shifting down to her feet as she thought back on it. “In retrospect, I guess that left way too much to the imagination. For all those taunts I made to her, I do have more of a flight reaction. I didn’t want to face the repercussions.” She still didn’t. Her imagination she had some form of control over. The truth, not so much.

Tea nodded, thinking about what she said. "I know it doesn't feel like it, but you're lucky. At least, I'm envious of you." He wished he could have run away. That he hadn't been able to . . . it left more memories for him to try to forget. It left a whole lifetime for him that he wanted nothing more than to forget. "I don't hold it against you for running. God knows I wish I could have." He looked down at his hands. "Do what you have to to survive. If that means fly or freeze . . . it's up to you." He didn't even bring up fight. He hadn't realized that was an option until recently. He was no expert on fight.

Out of all the words she had used to describe her life, lucky was not one of them. Someone having envy of her cowardice and sheer dumb chance sounded insane. However, if she was being honest, they probably were. “Well, you know what they say,” Eve shrugged. “‘One man’s hell is another man’s heaven’.” For him, at least. The angel glanced back at the brand on his neck and the scars littering his body. She believed with her entire heart and mind that she should’ve gotten something like that… but that wasn’t what she wanted. “Okay. So I flew away and I survived. What’s next?”

Tea thought about it. "Try to pick up what you have left and move on. You can't fix what happened. Can't erase it. It happened. Just . . . find the easiest way to live with it." He took a sip of steaming tea, then gestured with his cup. "Try not to lose too much sleep." Because there was no such thing as resting easy after seeing the things he had. Might as well take what he can get or stay up thinking.

Move on. The angel had heard those words countless times, from her friends to herself. The mantra had echoed in her head for months. She was supposed to become numb from things like death, simply accept that they were a part of a human’s lifespan and move on. And she ignored it then- no, she didn’t just ignore it. She completely rejected the idea out of pure stubbornness and guilt and renounced everything. “Sleeping is more trouble than it’s worth,” she retorted. “And I can’t pick up where I left off. For me, it was easier to try to get rid of what I had.” She made a gesture to the halo of blue flames above her head. “It still didn’t get rid of everything.”

Tea shrugged, understanding more than she knew. He couldn't get rid of his reminders. They were etched into his skin for the rest of his life. "Not everything goes away. And I agree." He had considered quitting sleeping altogether. "I guess just . . . learn to live with what you did."

Moving on, learning to live with the results, change in general, they were all broad life lessons the young angel had to encounter with much earlier than she had ever expected. It didn’t even count all the extra emotions she once never even considered dealing with with either. “I know, I have to learn to live with the consequences of my actions! It’s just…” Eve’s grip on her mug tightened, her throat tightening, unsure on how the next part would come out. “I… I’m tired of waiting, okay? I don’t want to wait for things to get better, not when I have no idea when or if they will! I want to take shortcuts. I want to cheat. I want to run when I’m supposed to confront my fears. I want… I want to not have to.”
She placed her mug back on the counter and buried her face in her hands, hiding a few tears of frustration behind them. “Ugh…” She slid onto the floor and pressed her back against the counter and wiped her eyes. “It doesn’t really matter want I want, does it?”

Tea shook his head. Unfortunately, what they wanted rarely ever mattered. "I'm sorry but . . . life doesn't wait for us to get better, and getting better usually requires that we do something completely different from what we're already doing." He shrugged and sighed. "I wish we didn't have to wait. I'd very much like to get all the crap over and done with. I just want to be better and get on with my life. It would be so much easier if things worked that way, but they don't." He realized he was taking on a harsher tone than was typical and hummed. "I'm sorry. You already know all this. You don't need me reiterating it."

Eve leaned back against the cabinets behind her. “In all reality, if life actually cares for my health, it probably does want me to stop doing what I’m currently doing.” She said in a half-hearted attempt at a joke. “And I don’t even know what I’m waiting for. I can’t go back to what I did have,” if everything else didn’t end her chances, then giving up her soul would definitely shut the door on that option forever, “and I don’t have anything planned for the future. I wish I could skip ahead to something.”
The angel looked back up at Tea and gave him a small shrug toward his apology. “Yeah, you’re not the only one who’s hammered the topic into my brain. But everyone needs to be reminded of it every now and then, right?” Probably not everyone, though her point still stood.
