Tea closed the door to Chronic's room behind him, steadying his breathing and completely ignoring the fraying of his nerves. He glanced around at the once comfortable room, now disheveled and . . . seemingly abandoned.
He was shivering. He didn't have much time. It was only a matter of time before he got called back to the raid and . . . he tried desperately not to think of the losses. He couldn't. He simply couldn't. Stepping towards the back where Chronic had once shown him the way to her portal, he found its entrance. "Please," he muttered as he closed his eyes, "please believe me," and then he stepped through into darkness.

Gold eyes snapped to attention the moment the door opened. Interesting. The familiar tall form of Tea moved through the darkness around him as she watched. He was going to get lost if he kept walking aimlessly. Slipping up beside him, Chronic hooked an arm around his. “It’s surprising seeing you here.”

Tea jolted to a stop eyes shooting wide in the impenetrable darkness. This . . . was the first touch he'd had that hadn't started off with a strike. He tried to quell the shivering, breathing shallowly as he couldn't see Chronic to be sure there really wasn't a black ax dangling above his head. Or some weapon of similar pallor. "I . . . I need your help."

“Help?” Chronic mumbled. “From the looks of it, your group is doing perfectly well in the desecration.” She smirked under her mask.

He sagged. Yeah. They were. This was the bloodiest raid he'd been a part of, and the only reason he was so much involved in it was because Liam wanted him there. Usually Liam went out of his way to make Tea leave the scene, only to come back when the damage was done and shuffle through the wreckage. Not this time. His Master was trying to prove a point. That had to be the case.
"I don't," he bit his lip, like saying it aloud was going to make every Puppeteer cone crawling out of the darkness to silence him. Taking a deep breath he uttered, "I don't want to be one of them anymore."

"And so you come to me for what?" Chronic asked, leading the young man through the darkness. A light in the distance glowed dully, growing as they drew in closer.

His chest tightened and his throat clenched. "I can't approach the others on my own." He'll be shredded, because he won't want to fight back. And there was always the risk of other Puppeteers seeing. "And you're the last person I trust to believe me." Ash . . . no longer did.

Chronic nodded. "I doubt I'm the best person to speak on your behalf." It was unlikely that many of the cult members trusted her to begin with.

"You are the only person." She had known he was a Puppeteer. She had kept it secret for his sake. Now the secret was out and he needed her help to convince everyone the his heart was with the cult. He would have chuckled at the irony of that thought if he hadn't been ready to cry at any given moment for days. Nothing had ever been so hard.

"Alright," she agreed with a sigh. She was hoping to stay out of the conflict, but lately it seemed she wasn't going to get her what she wished. "Do you have a plan?"

He reluctantly shook his head. He couldn't form one. Not until he had located the cult leader. "Right now, can I ask you not to let Tapi kill me?" He deserved far worse, but he would better help them while alive. For now. He . . . he thought.
Oh God, he was asking too much.

"That shouldn't be hard. I rather like you alive. If Tap Tap hasn't been captured, that is." Tapi will most likely attempt to take Tea's life, not that she'll succeed, but she may be persuaded to stand down. Especially when there is a willing member of those puppets on her side.

"She hasn't. No one knows where she is. Not even the rest of the cult." That he knew of. There were forces rallying, none of which had been caught that he'd seen. He knew so little when once he'd known so much. It was new. It was frustrating.
It was terrifying.
He'd honestly been waiting for Tapi to drop down on his head from out of nowhere this whole time.

"She's still in the cult base." She could still feel the tug and pull of her essence within the cult leader. "What have they been doing with the members they have caught?" she asked. She barely knew anything that was happening, mainly because a lack of interest.

Tea shook. He . . . they . . ., "Capturing. Branding. Some killed." Then they had been revived and . . . he covered his face with his free hand. This was his fault. His doing. No amount of utterances that he'd had no choice was going to change that fact.
